Habitat connectivity for endangered Indochinese tigers in Thailand

چکیده
Habitat connectivity is crucial for the conservation of species restricted to fragmented populations within human-dominated landscapes. However, identifying habitat apex predators challenging because trophic interactions between primary productivity and prey influence both distribution habitats, predator movement. Our goal was assess Indochinese tigers (Panthera tigris) in Thailand. We quantified suitable dispersal corridors based an ensemble model that included distributions, productivity, abiotic variables on camera-trap data from 1996 2013 15 protected areas. employed graph theory evaluate relative importance patches overall network. found tiger occurrence models with without distributions performed well (Area Under Curve: 0.932–0.954). inclusion significantly improved performance (P < 0.001). Protected areas at time our surveys were highly isolated high resistance movement corridors, four them have lost their since. Potential outside also mostly isolated, but it encouraging find there ample potential are not occupying. The Huai Kha Kaeng - ThungYai patch Krachan corridor most important connectivity. Generally, integrating into assessments a promising approach can be widely applied predict delineate thereby supporting planning other large carnivores.

متن کاملRapid conservation assessment for endangered species using habitat connectivity models
To avoid extinction of rare species in regions of active environmental change, strategic approaches are needed to manage remaining habitat. When observations of dispersal or metapopulation information are not available, habitat connectivity simulations may offer a valuable alternative source of information to assess threats and evaluate conservation options. For the Critically Endangered San Ma...
متن کاملImportance of habitat quality and landscape connectivity for the persistence of endangered natterjack toads.
The natterjack toad (Bufo calamita) is endangered in several parts of its distribution, including Belgium, where it occurs mainly in artificial habitats. We parameterized a general model for natterjack population viability analysis (PVA) and tested its sensitivity to changes in the values of basic parameters. Then we assessed the relative efficiency of various conservation measures in 2 situati...
متن کاملHabitat connectivity improves reserve performance
Connectivity is now a common consideration in conservation planning, but we need further empirical evidence for the role of connectivity in catalyzing reserve function. We examined whether connectivity improved reserve performance by investigating how isolation between coral reefs and mangroves influenced fish assemblages inside and outside a reserve in Moreton Bay, Australia. Connectivity grea...
متن کاملMolecular phylogeny of the critically endangered Indochinese box turtle (Cuora galbinifrons).
The Indochinese box turtle Cuora galbinifrons is a polytypic, critically endangered species from Vietnam, Laos, and Hainan Island, China. We analyze up to 1790bp of mitochondrial DNA under maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood criteria to test if the five historically recognized subspecies represent evolutionary lineages, and to elucidate the relationship of C. galbinifrons to other Cuora. C...
